“A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
– Margaret Mead
Jackson Hole | community first
Jackson Hole is one of the most unique communities in the United States. The location is desirable to many because of its proximity to national parks, preserves, wildlife, world-class recreation, and vast open ranges. Local activists and nonprofits understand that development and change are inevitable and, in some cases, necessary. There is such a severe affordable housing shortage that every community within 100 miles is affected by it. Those activists and nonprofits are fighting to make sure that new developments are planned and built responsibly. That’s where I came in. As the communication and outreach manager for the Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance, I designed and deployed content strategies encouraging constituents to get involved.
In June of 2024, a land developer from Utah proposed a new luxury condo building that was nearly four times larger than anything that had ever been built in Jackson. The condo building threatened the environment, promised to worsen traffic congestion, and took advantage of housing bonuses that wouldn’t contribute to workforce housing. The Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance launched our Community First Campaign. We led the call, asking the Town Council to place a moratorium on big commercial buildings until they had time to evaluate Land Development Regulations. The response from residents was resounding, the moratorium was enacted, and the gigantic problematic building was denied.
